love the skin youre in

At 51, I can safely say I finally know what it means when one says “love the skin youre in”. I no longer really care if my hair is frizzy, if my legs are not perfectly waxed or if I have a zit bang in the middle of my chin.

Feeling confident and happy with oneself no matter what we look like is a great liberating feeling. Love the skin youre in!

It was not always so. I remember feeling very self-conscious and not liking many parts of my body, my gummy smile, my hairy body, my frizzy hair, being too tall, having ugly toes and always wearing closed shoes even in 40 degrees centrigrade.

I think its important to note that even though I posted my photo, there are other things that I often feel insecure about, like speaking in public and whether I’m actually a good mother, and my weight. I think we all have our insecurities and some never go away.

We need to remember that because we may look confident on the outside, we all are fighting some internal battles, no matter our age. Social media may tend to sometimes portray a false reality and we need to keep this in mind.

Just because we see smiling happy family photos or confident influencers, there’s usually a lot happening behind those snapshots and they only reflect a split second of a person’s lived reality. Many times, the reality is far removed from that one happy photo.

So lets celebrate who we are, no matter what we look like, let us learn to be kind to ourselves and not be too critical of our own characters and our own looks but to accept that none of us are perfect and we all have flaws and insecurities no matter how “beautiful” and “happy” we may look on the outside.

A big thank you to these lovely ladies who showed us that we women are all amazing in our own different and unique ways.

Quarantine taught me to love my skin as it is… I don’t mind going for a coffee without any make up on

Encourage yourself, believe in yourself and love yourself those are the most important things. You’re all beautiful and gorgeous in your own way and makeup has nothing to do with.

To be honest, I feel better when I’m wearing makeup but when I don’t, I like the fact that I have freckles on my cheeks even though I’m a brunette.

#lovetheskinyouarein is not about how great your skin looks without make up. It would be great if women with imperfect skin, who suffer from acne even in their adulthood or with scarring feel that this space is for them too.

It’s very hard when you have skin problems like acne, pigmentation, scarring, psoriasis etc, the list is endless, to take photos with bare skin let alone post pics of oneself. Makeup is there to enhance but I feel it hides my true self. The best version of oneself is how you wake up in the morning and what you see in the mirror. To me self talk , self care and self acceptance have become more important than perfect skin.

It is such a relief to start seeing women being themselves and not feeling the need to hide. Makeup should be something extra – something creative, artistic and beautiful – but not something we NEED to feel beautiful and definitely not something imposed on us by society.
