Maltese stuck in UK

Many Maltese citizens stuck in the UK are very annoyed and angry with the Maltese authorities because they have been told that they need to ask for permission to be allowed to visit their families in Malta unless they have all been vaccinated, especially since they now know that Covid numbers in Malta are up to 96 and these, we are told, are all due to unvaccinated tourists mostly students.

So, these students were allowed to enter Malta without a vaccine certificate. Meanwhile in the UK numerous young Maltese children who go to school there and have finished school are being told they have to wait for Covid vetting permission also not taking into consideration that these are minors with nowhere to go.

Then there are all the Maltese families that live in the UK who have teens who haven’t yet been vaccinated and are also being told that they have to ask permission – One family we spoke to told us “Maltese citizens are being treated as second class citizens and made to ask and wait for permission to enter their own home country, causing more undue stress and anxiety to what has already been a very difficult year for us

There are lots of mixed messages and information and this is causing even more anxiety. Charmaine Gauci clearly said that all Maltese are entitled to travel back to Malta yet she failed to mention that we need to ask for permission and the permission is taking several days to be granted resulting in stress, confusion, missed flights

There are various examples of very disappointed Maltese families all over facebook like the ones that got the AstraZeneca Vaccine from the batch that has not been licensed so once again they need to ask permission to travel to Malta and permissions are not being issued in time!

We urge the authorities to allow Maltese wanting to travel back to Malta from whatever country to be allowed to board planes with negative rapid tests just like others have been allowed to do from other countries.

Jacqueline who lives in the UK and whose son has not yet been vaccinated but the rest of the family has told us “The Maltese should be allowed to travel to Malta without having to ask permission or be denied boarding, and then of course they can take all the covid precautions once in Malta
