testing covid19 positive

I was asymptomatic, had no shortness of breath, no sore throat, nothing…I never imagined I would be testing covid19 positive!

When we hear COVID-19 we immediately think of all the photos of intubated sick people we see on the media… but when the symptoms are mild, unfortunately, we might keep going on with our lives, because let’s face it, who has never had a headache, popped paracetamol and soldiered on to work? It’s what we do… we have to keep going! We feel fine! We don’t feel like those poor sick people on TV gasping for air!

Just a small heads up ladies. Not writing to instill fear or get political or whatever. I just want to tell you what I would have liked to know before testing covid19 positive.

And before you start pointing fingers: no, I didn’t go to any parties, and I’m one to usually be made fun of due to all the hand sanitizer and precautions I use.

I felt a dry throat but thought it was the usual AC summer shenanigans. Going from very hot outside to cool inside, getting allergy symptoms… I’m sure most will understand and probably experienced this before. My eyes were slightly red (conjunctivitis) but again…allergies? Could have been that new face wash that got into my eyes! (Apparently up to 3% of cases have conjunctivitis but it was never mentioned on Maltese Health portals!)

I heard myself cough once, out of the blue, and thought it was weird…but perhaps it was the icy drinks that reacted with my body which was burning up since I was out of the AC! The heat was getting to me like crazy! I felt drained! I just wanted to lay in front of an AC and do nothing (then again, that’s pretty much any August in Malta, especially if you’re menstruating!!).

I booked a test JUST IN CASE and because I’m so paranoid since I live with my parents who are vulnerable. I tested covid19 positive!

What’s even more weird? The 3 people I had met up with (apart from my parents at home) during that week all tested negative…

In this weird era we are living in, I’m asking you to keep an extra eye out. If you’re feeling weak, or feel a bit of a nasal congestion, think twice before popping Paracetamol and continuing on.. just keep an extra bit of distance ’till you’re 100% sure it’s not Covid-19, because believe me, it’s easier than having to carry the remorse of possibly passing it on to someone who wouldn’t be able to survive it!
