Gaia and Nina Clothing Line

I just spent a lovely afternoon chatting with another amazing woman – Francesca Pace, an awesome entrepreneur and talented designer and business woman. Her children’s clothing brand Gaia and Nina named after her two daughters is making a name all over the world. “I’m really excited Harrods contacted me too the other day” she tells me enthusiastically. I asked her how this idea came about and she explains that it was due to a health scare she had a few years ago; “I felt the need to start doing something with my children, so I first started by creating an Instagram account and posting photosRead More…

Lara Vella is swimming champion and anti-pollution activist’s partner – Neil Agius. Neil recently swam from Sicily to Malta in a record-breaking 28 hours, 7 minutes and 28 seconds. Daniela Allen speaks to Lara about how she lived Neil’s epic swim in June and her constant support towards him. “I promised Neil that I would be there all along, until the very end of the swim. And I was,” says Lara as she describes the various moments and emotions that surfaced throughout the swim. “Amongst others, there was also a moment of panic when in the middle of the night in pitch darkness between 3Read More…

“Soft skills are a requisite to successfully face the constantly changing working scenarios, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic…” Over the past 10 years, the labor market has become more and more sectorial, creating the opportunity for every professional to specialize in increasingly specific areas. However, in 2020, and even more in the post COVID era, a curriculum vitae full of experience is no longer the only element that guarantees the hiring or professionalism of a person. We are in front of what is defined as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we have learned – the hard way ☹ – that processes can be efficiently managedRead More…

Recently wham caught up with art gallery owner Christine Xuereb, also known as Christine X to find out more about this very interesting venture: I have always been interested in art – my earliest memory was of me drawing for classmates and my best subjects at school were always art and maths – and although my plan was initially to become an architect, my life choices led me to take up art as my major subject, eventually taking History of Art and Anthropology at university. With my bad memory and lack of interest in the history of art before modern times, I was slacking butRead More…

“Listen, but don’t be afraid to do something that you are passionate about just because it deviates from “the norm”. If you follow your internal compass, life has a funny way of working out” – Laura Paris Laura Paris recently collaborated with Break the Taboo and Young Progressive Beings to put together a collection of women’s abortion experiences called Dear Decision Makers in the hope of persuading policy makers to listen to women and create debate around Malta’s total abortion ban. Wham caught up with Laura Paris to find out what drives this ambitious young dynamic woman who works as a disease control specialist inRead More…

As a newly graduated Gestalt Psychotherapist, Sophie caught our attention because she portrays the modern Maltese woman; confident, influential, inspirational, bright, independent and in the words of Annie Lennox “doing it for herself”. We caught up with Gestalt Psychotherapist Sophie Bonello Du Puis to find out more about her. Tell us a bit about yourself – how old are you? what are your aspirations, and what are you passionate about? I am 27 years old and have always aspired to working in the field of psychotherapy. The dream is to open a private clinic which I can call my own, a space which promotes safety,Read More…

Maltese bobbin lace … What comes to mind when you think of it? Perhaps watching your great grandmother working lace when you were a child, perhaps listening to stories about where your mother’s most prized tablecloth came from, memories of hawkers at Gozo selling their lace products or images of British royalty wearing our Bizzilla. Even as lace-making slowly and silently fades into our cultural history, we all have some story to tell or some experience to share.  St Jeanne Antide Foundation’s SOAR service launched a project in late 2019 called A Stitch in Time, to bring women together, especially women who have faced difficultRead More…

A mindful sex app has been created using techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy promoting pleasure, confidence and health for women. For centuries, research has seen a huge male bias, creating a gap in knowledge about women’s health. Research now shows that a half of the men and women surveyed in Britain had a serious lack in identifying and understanding the function of a vagina. This is compounded by poor perceptions around female pleasure that are derived from porn. This is why two young entrepreneurs set out to change the narrative around women’s sexual wellbeing. Quinlan, 29, and Hushlak, 31, have launched a mindful sexRead More…

“As young girls, we have been taught to associate sexiness with external factors but confidence in women is the sexiest thing a woman can wear…” I have recently followed a very interesting thread on Women for Women’s Facebook page about how we, as women can be sexier. There were range of comments from “I’m a goofball”, “trying to be sexy makes me cringe” to “be happy in your own skin”, ‘ we all have our own brand of sexy”. As young girls, we have been taught to associate sexiness with external factors – the way our body looks, the clothes we wear, the make-up weRead More…
