In today’s fast-paced world, many women feel disconnected from themselves—emotionally and physically. Stress, trauma, and unprocessed emotions can manifest as physical tension or discomfort, making it hard to feel grounded. Rebecca Camilleri, a holistic therapist, uses body awareness and creative movement to help women reconnect with their bodies, release blocked emotions, and reclaim their inner strength.
What is Holistic Healing?
Rebecca’s healing approach combines body-centred techniques like somatics, breathwork, dance, and mindfulness. This combination of movement and body awareness allows women to uncover and express emotions stored in their bodies.
“By incorporating body-centred techniques, you gain deeper awareness of emotions stored within,” Rebecca explains. “Creative expression—through dance, art, or movement—provides non-verbal ways to communicate and release blocked emotions or trauma.”
This integrative approach differs from traditional therapy because it addresses both mental and physical well-being, allowing women to experience a more holistic sense of healing.
Rebecca’s Journey to Holistic Healing
Rebecca’s personal experiences played a significant role in shaping her career.
“I was in a relationship that violated my boundaries, leaving me insecure and afraid. The emotional pain manifested physically as deep back pain—my body’s way of screaming for attention,” she recalls.
Through therapy, she realised the powerful connection between emotional and physical well-being, sparking her interest in holistic healing. After studying Gestalt therapy, yoga, and emotional release massage, she decided to help others reconnect with their bodies and emotions in the same way she did.
The Power of Creative Movement
Rebecca believes creative movement is a powerful tool for women, helping them reconnect with their bodies and build self-confidence.
“Creative movement allows women to express feelings that may be difficult to verbalise. By doing so, they reclaim their narratives and validate their emotions and experiences,” says Rebecca.
This physical expression helps women feel more confident, tap into their intuition, and strengthen the bond between their mind and body.
How Body Awareness Aids Healing
Body awareness plays a crucial role in healing emotional and physical wounds. Trauma and unprocessed emotions often manifest in the body as tension, pain, or discomfort. By paying attention to these sensations, women can begin to process and release them.
“Increased body awareness encourages us to listen to the body’s subtle cues. This fosters self-compassion, helps release stored tension, and promotes healing,” Rebecca explains.
Becoming more aware of the body’s signals contributes to overall well-being, reduces stress, and leads to a greater sense of emotional resilience.
Healing in a Group Setting
While individual healing is powerful, Rebecca emphasises the transformative effect of healing within a community. In her group sessions, participants often find comfort and strength in knowing they are not alone in their struggles.
“Healing in a group reminds us that we are not alone. The shared experience of witnessing each other’s journeys fosters connection and mutual support,” she observes.
Group healing can be even more powerful as participants inspire one another to confront their challenges with vulnerability and courage.
Transformations Through Movement
Rebecca has witnessed many emotional and physical transformations in the women who attend her sessions. She sees women enter with physical tension—such as tight shoulders or jaw pain—only to leave feeling lighter and more relaxed.
“As we shift in our bodies, we also shift in our minds. This release leads to new perspectives, emotional freedom, and personal breakthroughs,” she shares.
These physical changes often reflect a deeper emotional shift, allowing women to approach life with renewed confidence and clarity.
A Safe and Supportive Environment
Creating a safe space is central to Rebecca’s work. She creates an environment where participants feel comfortable exploring their emotions without fear of judgment.
“Safety begins with experiencing it in the body. By cultivating body awareness, participants can establish boundaries and process emotions, which helps create a sense of security,” she explains.
This supportive environment allows women to open up, share their experiences, and feel truly seen and heard.
