Martina is a Maltese Pastry Chef based in London.
Martina attained a Diplôme de Pâtisserie at Le Cordon Bleu, London in December 2019.
Martina spent nine months studying the art of French pastries and dessert. The Diplôme de Pâtisserie is recognized globally as one of the most respected culinary qualifications in pastry and baking.
However, her passion for cooking and baking started at a young age, helping her parents prepare and cook meals for family and friends. Martina was brought up understanding that the kitchen is one of the most important rooms of a home; an outlet for creativity, a space of sanctuary to escape from daily stress and a laboratory for experimentation and innovation.
Interestingly, Martina previously worked as an architect. She believes that the skills and knowledge developed through her studies and work as an architect are adaptable into the kitchen from concept development and creativity, working under strict deadlines, problem solving, to teamwork and ambition.
Martina spent the first few months of this year working in the pastry kitchen at Hotel Cafe Royal, a luxury 5-star Hotel just off Piccadilly Circus, where she learnt a great deal and honed various skills. Martina was exposed to afternoon tea preparations, chocolate work, in-room dining and various mise-en-place recipes and she enjoyed every minute of it.
Martina continues to bake and create regularly and is happy to collaborate with and support WHAM to share patisserie recipes, tips and knowledge.
