The Women In Me is an annual celebration of the different facets and diverse needs and desires of every woman, honouring what makes a woman unique as well as what all women have in common. Keeping this year’s recommended health precautions in mind, The Women In Me 2021 is being celebrated through a virtual campaign, showcasing a number of women who have impacted the local scene in a positive and empowering way.
The Women In Me 2021 celebrates the strengths and achievements of women of all ages who, despite life obstacles, have managed to persevere and succeed, radiating inspiration and empowerment through their own day-to-day presence. Some of the empowering women being featured this year include President Emeritus Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, our very own Francesca Fenech Conti, 16 year old footballer Haley Bugeja, Mvintage co-founder and managing director Krystle Penza, Dentist Dr Ethel Vento Zahra, and many more.
Wham contacted Louise Bugeja to learn more about how this inspirational campaign was first introduced.
The Women in Me started with a chance conversation on a flight back to Malta. My daughter Denise got involved immediately and then my two other daughters became interested too. Year after year, we would discuss how the next event would meet more of women’s needs. In 2020, the campaign was held on 6th March, since Women’s Day was on a Sunday. It was truly providential since the first COVID case was reported on the 7th March. This year, we still wanted to celebrate The Women in Me so we created the #empoweringwomen campaign where we could honour the women who inspire and empower others. Thanks to this campaign, we have discovered amazing women who deserve recognition and praise. We believe that “everything happens for a reason” and this year has proved it.

Every year, The Women In Me campaign donates part of the proceedings to a philanthropic organisation. This year the Richmond Foundation – Malta was chosen as the beneficiary organisation, especially considering that this extremely empowering NGO has experienced a drastic increase of service requests due to COVID-19 in the past year. The Richmond Foundation supports people experiencing mental health problems, as well as those close to them, throughout various aspects of life. Apart from offering therapeutic care, they also help equip them with the skills to live and work independently. Their tailored support services range from support groups and assisted living solutions, to educational programmes and counselling services. This year, the campaign is inviting everyone to participate in this cause by sending donations directly to The Richmond Foundation or via Revolut on +356 77239298 quoting “The Women in Me” when donating.
