breast cancer awareness

Pink October is how we refer to October as a month for raising Breast Cancer awareness. There are walks, runs and bike rides being organised around Malta and Gozo to raise funds for NGO’s and Cancer Research. Schools and work places organise breast awareness talks and encourage wearing pink for the day. This drive towards more awareness and information is vital because it helps highlight the importance of being checked by a doctor and having the necessary medical investigations and treatment if there is an issue. This year, due to the COVID pandemic, NGO’s had to re-think ways to raise awareness and funding for cancerRead More…

inspirational women

Female role models are women who are admired, aspired and held in high esteem by other individuals because of their ability to show passion and inspiration, with a potential to exhibit a clear set of values and their commitment to the community. Female role models are capable to accept others and overcome obstacles, while also communicating a sense of selflessness.  They can either be someone that the individual knows and interacts with on a daily basis or someone that the individual never really meets, like a celebrity. Through this article I would like to share with you all who my own female role models are,Read More…

Hourie PhD Student

PhD student Hourie has managed to defeat all odds, coming from a Palestinian refugee camp in Southern Lebanon, to pursuing a PhD in the USA… As young women, we have to understand that we should be the captains of our lives; we cannot please everyone, not even our parents. Don’t worry about starting the road alone, as long as you know you are on the right one, and others will eventually follow. Hourie I first met Hourie in Malta around 4 years ago whilst we were both volunteering with the Migrant Woman Association. fibromyalgia

Five years might not be seen as too long, however, constant pain, sleep difficulties, migraines and headaches, as well as problems with mental processes can make those 5 years feel like a never-ending hell. I am a 19 year old young woman, and finally, after 5 years begging various doctors to answer questions regarding all issues with my body, I was able to rule out other possible conditions and come to the conclusion that what I most likely have is Fibromyalgia. It all started 7 years ago, when I was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital with Tachycardia: my heart was beating at an average rateRead More…

Krystle Penza Mvintage

I’ve always admired trail blazers and women succeeding in male dominated areas or in business. Of course the woman behind the MVintage brand is no exception and I was curiously drawn to find out more about the woman behind this totally local Maltese brand.  Creating a brand like Mvintage from scratch is no easy feat and takes dedication, vision, determination and a strong business acumen.  Meeting Krystle Penza felt like meeting one of my idols, I was starry eyed with admiration. Sitting in the Mvintage coffee shop at their flagship store in Iklin, I felt like I had met a local icon, but also aRead More…

“Whilst giving birth during a pandemic, I was 32 weeks pregnant, considered vulnerable and in isolation, and my anxiety hit the roof…” March 2019 was when I found out I was pregnant the first time. My husband and I were very happy about it. A few days after whilst at work when I noticed that I had some brownish spotting. I confided in a colleague, who told me to go get checked out immediately. I called a local private hospital and had an appointment within the hour. The doctor there was very rude to me, bruised me during an internal ultrasound and told me toRead More…
