Filigree Women for Women

I have always loved filigree and when Dr. Joanna Delia approached me about collaborating and selling filigree jewellery in aid of Women for Women Foundation and Women’s Rights Foundation I was immediately drawn to the idea. Any excuse to collaborate with Joanna or other like-minded women and raise funds. I was even more excited when she told me the new pendants would be representing women’s vaginas. I affectionately nicknamed them Pussy Pendants;  while Joanna calls them Weewees. These Weewees or Pussy Pendants are designed, and hand crafted by filigree master and iron man Kevin Attard. Kevin has been crafting amazing hand made pieces for overRead More…

pro-choice activists malta

Pro Choice Activist Emily Galea speaks about her experience on being and becoming a pro-choice activist in our Country… I don’t remember exactly when I became pro-choice, but I do remember when I became aware of my positionality as a woman.  From my earliest memories, I can recall experiencing sexism. At 9 years old, I remember forcing myself to carry 6 chairs at once out of the mere frustration of being told that only the “strong boys” can carry chairs. At 11 years old, walking down the road to take public transport for the first time, I was hooted at and called “sex” by aRead More…

sex in relationships

Having sex during the pandemic may not be as easy as before, but with careful planning you can bring sexual intimacy back into your lives… Life has become somewhat bizarre; in everything we do, we have had to adapt to using the same space. Every room in the house has become a place to work, talk, entertain ourselves, listen to lectures, eat, discuss. Some couples are using this time to reconnect, spend time together and with their family. Others haven’t had it as easy, especially if their relationship was already on the brink of trouble. Parents, especially those having younger children, have an extra challengeRead More…

Dr Corinne Ward

As a mature nursing student I recently had the privilege of attending a lecture delivered by Dr. Corinne Ward. I remember listening to her talk attentively and being in awe of the strength, determination and courage that this woman had and the changes that she brought forward within the Nursing Profession in Malta throughout the years. I remember feeling the need to follow in her footsteps so I can also one day bring about some of the much needed changes within our society, with the aim of making this world a better place. Today I am proud to present to you Dr Corinne Ward, whoRead More…

persona med aesthetics plastic surgery

I receive many anonymous requests from members of Women for Women with regards to various cosmetic surgery procedures. Many women seem shy to ask directly about cosmetic surgery and it is still quite something not openly discussed amongst women. I therefore decided it would be a great idea if I asked all the questions that we women would usually want to know. I have heard a lot of positive recommendations about Persona so I thought this would be a great place to start from and to see what they have to offer. With Covid-19 confining us indoors and with winter around the corner and numbersRead More…

Young Progressive Beings YPB

The Young Progressive Beings, young, bold and brave young women, have one main aim…to defend the rights of women in Malta… As a woman I am ashamed to say that I became interested in women’s struggles and feminism late in life. I always had a strong sense of justice and what is right from wrong but the real passion and love for women’s issues and rights for women was really ignited in me when I met Dr. Lara Dimitrijevic founder of Women’s Rights Foundation. Her work as a pro-bono lawyer with victims of domestic violence and victims of human trafficking really inspired me and helpedRead More…

rachel sammut bumpandme

Rachel Sammut wanted flexibility and quality of life by being self-employed, so she set up her own online business BumpAndMe … Over the years I’ve spoken and exchanged ideas and opinions with Rachel many times, however, all virtually always on messenger. It was lovely to finally meet up with her and to get to know her in person. Rachel is a soft-spoken lawyer by profession but also an inspirational businesswoman and a busy, but very organised mummy to her gorgeous children Leila and Hugh. After spending a few years working in London where her work experience there was very different from working here in Malta,Read More…

Despite setbacks she encountered as a female swimmer in the past, she has become an inspirational resilient strong woman who is determined to reach her life goals. Francesca: I know you participated in the London and Rio Olympics in 2012 and 2016 respectively – that must have been a dream come true…tell us a bit about how you got there and what it was like When I was 6 and had already been swimming for 2 years, I watched the Maltese Olympic contingent walk out at the 1996 AtlantaRead More…

Selina Scerri Artist

Wham recently met up with magical artist Selina Scerri, after seeing her artwork whilst interviewing one of our other inspirational women….We just had to learn more about the magical artist behind these intriguing large format “magical” paintings. Francesca: Tell us a bit about yourself. I have always compared myself to Peter Pan. Not in the way of a person that never grows up, but as a child who never grows up. The only way for me to survive in this world was to always believe in magic and paint. I have been a professional painter since 2007 and have had different studios around Europe includingRead More…
